Vacancy on local source protection committee

Tweet ThisEMC News - Would you like to be a voice for lake associations, a community group interested in drinking water or perhaps the general public? There is a vacancy on the Mississippi-Rideau Source Protection Committee for someone to represent a public interest or the general public. Application deadline is Friday, Sept. 24.
Since 2008, the Source Protection Committee, has been hard at work completing technical studies that show where drinking water comes from (lakes, rivers, underground aquifers) and where we need to protect it from potential contamination or overuse.
This fall the committee will begin drafting policies to protect drinking water sources. These policies will focus on protecting sources of municipal drinking water and they are due August 2012. All work is being completed under Ontario's Clean Water Act.
An application form and eligibility criteria are available on our web site at www.mrsourcewater.ca. Committee members are expected to work as a group to resolve issues, attend meetings and public information sessions and make policy decisions to protect source water. Members receive a per diem and mileage for their committee work.
The committee is made up of 15 people as follows: five municipal reps, five economic sector reps (agriculture, industry, commercial), five public interest reps (environmental, First Nations, general public) - one vacancy.
