Hospice volunteer training begins Sept. 14

EMC News - Are you enthusiastic, energetic, dedicated and compassionate? Beth Donovan Hospice is currently recruiting volunteers for our home visiting program. We rely on volunteers to provide respite, and support to those who are suffering from a life limiting or terminal illness in the communities that we serve.

Volunteers are required to participate in a 30-hour training program which will be held Sept. 14 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the North Grenville Community Church, 2659 Concession Road, Kemptville. Training is provided at no cost to the volunteer, with a commitment of one year active volunteering with our organization. There are many topics covered with plenty of time for discussion.

Some examples of the topics covered include: role and responsibilities of a volunteer, the needs of the dying and their family, communication, universal precautions, history, philosophy and origins of Hospice, Palliative illnesses, grief and bereavement, and care for the caregiver.

To register, please contact the office at 613-258-9611 or email dawn.rodger@bethdonovanhospice.ca. Registration is limited and will close on Sept. 3. If you are able to give some of your spare time to ease the suffering of those who are terminally ill, we are always in need of volunteers. Volunteers are also required to assist with our fundraising events.
