EMC Lifestyle - The Lanark Animal Welfare Society is now seeking photo entries for their 2011 Charity Pet calendar.

Pet owners all have one (or many) - that cute photo of your dog gazing at you adoringly as only man's best friend can, or perhaps the cat goofing around with their favourite toy. Those photos that give you a warm fuzzy feeling when you look at them, or make you laugh so hard you shed a tear. Why not share them with LAWS and help a good cause at the same time?

Send your photos in as well as your choice of calendar date as slots always fill up quickly. Entry deadline is Sept. 1 and prices this year follow that of previous years - $20 for the first photo and $10 for each additional photo entered. Photos may be sent electronically for the 2011 edition and are being looked after by Cathy Hasler. Email your photos to either cathy.hasler@rbc.com or shelter@lanarkanimals.ca attention to Cathy Hasler.

As a non profit organization with no funding but for donations and fundraising activities, LAWS relies on the public to support the cause. Dollars donated to LAWS go immediately to the animals in LAWS care.

HAPPY ENDINGS STORIES:

Hi(Sonny and Oliver here. We just wanted to tell you that we love our new home. Our parents are great and give us lots of love. We have a big brother, his name is Butch and he is a pretty cool guy. We have a big house to run and play in and lots of neat windows to look out at all the bird houses. They have a special day here...Tuna Tuesday and we get a little treat on Saturday...life is good here!(Thanks to all the great staff at LAWS for taking such good care of us till we found our new home. Oliver & Sonny

Just wanted to drop you a note on how Nika (aka Lila) is doing. It was a bright, crisp fall morning when we took a drive out to Smiths Falls. we were warmly greeted at the LAWS door and I knew we had come to the right place. We were led out back, and there, sitting in a dog house, was our lovely little Nika. we learned that the week prior, someone had left her tied to the door of the shelter in the middle of the night... my heart went out to her and I never wanted her to know another dark, lonely, scary, cold night in her life...((Over the past month, Nika has been embraced by our family members and friends, her new vet, her neighbours, her dog park compadres, the staff at the pet store. Once timid, her confidence has markedly grown. At the end of each new and exciting day, she climbs up on the bed next to me, and before long, the sounds of tiny snores drift wispily to my ear from the small weight on the pillow beside me...((Translated, Nika means "bringer of victory". Indeed, our darling girl triumphed over abandon, and has found her way to a loving new home thanks to LAWS.

THIS WEEK'S PETS:

Tweak is an adorable cat who absolutely loves to be held and showered with attention. Tweak is of the opinion that there is no such thing as "too much loving." This gorgeous cat is a one-year-old, short-haired, all black, spayed female who has been vaccinated and is in excellent health. In our experience, black cats have the most loyal and loving nature and Tweak is a dedicated, affectionate cuddle-bunny.

Basket is an eight-month-old, kitten that is a staff favourite. This handsome, short-haired, brown Tabby is always amusing us with his antics. He is an active, clever guy who loves to be involved in anything you're doing. Basket is going to make a wonderful companion for someone. If you are looking for an outgoing and fun, laid-back friend then Basket is the pet for you.

Amelia is the sweetest hound cross you will ever find! This little girl is so pretty, and loves everyone. Amelia is very dainty, and loves attention. She is clean in her kennel, and is learning her leash lessons quickly. Amelia would love to be your faithful companion, whether outside or just smooching in front of the television. As with all hounds, a fenced back yard is highly recommended!

Cruiser is a handsome one-and-a-half-year-old, neutered male, Hound Mix. His Brindle colouring and medium sized frame combine to make him a handsome boy. This handsome Hound is always anxious to please and ready to start some serious training. He has lots of energy and would love to be part of an active home. As with all Hounds, a fenced yard is a must!
