EMC Lifestyle - The Rideau Lakes Horticultural Society (RLHS) will be featuring Dale Odorizzi at its next meeting, Wednesday, Aug. 4, 7:15 p.m. at the Portland Hall. Odorizzi's presentation will be on 'Creating a Butterfly Garden'.

Butterflies add an extra dimension to your garden. They are frequently called 'Flying Flowers' and watching them flit gracefully over your flowers adds one more pleasure to your garden. This presentation will provide you with the elements of creating a butterfly friendly garden.

Odorizzi is a Master Gardener with Lanark County Master Gardeners. Master Gardeners is a volunteer organization comprised of individuals who are certified horticultural experts who provide gardening information and advice to the gardening public.

Her personal garden is a large country garden that has been designed to attract birds, butterflies, bees, turtles, frogs and toads.

For the past four years, she has worked extensively with the Rideau Valley Field Naturalists to design, develop and maintain an award winning butterfly garden at the Perth Rideau Valley Conservation Area. This Butterfly Garden has become an important component of the RVCA Species at Risk Program.

RLHS supports the Rideau District High School in Elgin each year by giving a $500 bursary to a student going into horticultural related studies. RLHS member Sharon Carr was pleased to present this year's bursary to Sarah Doucet of Newboro. Congratulations Sarah.

We welcome visitors to our meetings. A small fee of $5 for non-members of the RLHS, applies. A RLHS membership is $15.
