Kemptville welcomed and celebrated the grand opening of Staples on Saturday. Associates and co workers from other area stores joined in on the celebrations and to assist the new staff at this Kemptville location on their opening day.
With Staples representatives, members of the community and North Grenville District Chamber of Commerce in attendance, mayor Bill Gooch and fellow council members cut the ribbon to open the new 15,000 square foot store.
Also on hand for the festivities were Staples employees from other stores to help out with the large crowds during the grand opening, as well as Rob McLellan of the Special Olympics. Kemptville Staples general manager Kirk Sauriol noted that Staples is a big supporter of the organization.
"Community is very important to me," he said. "And in terms of community programs, Staples is a big supporter."
To help express their excitement at being a part of the Kemptville community, Staples and Sauriol made a special presentation of a $1,000 gift card for the Kemptville Youth Centre. Board president Lisa Davis and executive director Stacey Tenbult were in attendance to accept the donation and present Sauriol with a 'Friend of Youth' certificate from the centre.
The new 15,000 square foot store which began construction late last year on the site, specializes in office supplies and furniture, computers and printers, complete with a copy and print centre and Easy Tech centre for all computer support needs.
For Gooch, seeing the Colonnade Development become a reality has been a long time coming.
"It's been five and a half years since Cal Kirkpatrick (vice president of development) for Colonnade Development first came to us with the concept for Colonnade," he remarked. "Over the years it has evolved from big box discount stores to a new concept: two big box stores and a couple of smaller ones."
He said the six permanent and 28 part-time jobs Staples has created in the area will be a boost for North Grenville.
"It's (Staples) going to be a tremendous asset to our community...it's basically progressing the way the first council with me as mayor had envisioned," he stated. "It's great prosperity for North Grenville council."
Following the ribbon cutting, guests were invited to take a peek inside the new store and check out the many grand opening sales and bargains made available to customers.
Staples is located at 302 Colonnade Drive in the Colonnade Development. For more information, please call 613-258-5900.
